On average, seniors in our study were about 78% as confident completing tasks as
their counterparts between the ages of 21 and 55. On average, people 65 and over
rated their confidence at 3.95 out of a possible 7, and people between 21 and 55
rated their confidence at 5.04 out of a possible 7.
A possible reason for seniors’ lower confidence levels is that they’ve had very little
affirmation that they “are doing it right.” Most seniors in our study were not exposed
to computers much or at all at work; those that did use them started doing so just
prior to retirement. Because of this, they did not learn some of the conventions that
others learn by watching coworkers or by getting formal or informal training. |
