The Disable Edits module is a simple administration module that allows you to configure "blocked" paths that should be redirected to a page of your choosing when the checkbox enabling this behavior is checked.
The idea is to prevent users from adding or editing content. The most obvious example use case for this module is during a migration, it may be desirable to disallow adding/editing content or users, but otherwise keeping the site out of maintenance mode for viewing. Another example is if your site is being bombarded with spam, you can disable users from adding pages temporarily while you address the issue. Yet another possible usage is an alternative for maintenance mode. Keep your site alive while applying Drupal core and contributed module updates.
Because this module is specifically designed for tasks like migrating sites, bug fixes will be supported for the Drupal 6 version for the foreseeable future.
